Update

Well Well Well... How's everyone doin?!

I'm doing pretty darn good myself. I'm sure everyone (All of my MANY MANY watchers lol. You are a few ELITE) are wondering where i've been, what i've been doing. So I figured i'd give an update.I'm sure as everyone predicted, I'm VERY busy (hence the no new submissions thing.)

On the art front, I have some pretty big news. I'm doing a HUGE illustration job for a software company on some software for kids. It's mainly drawing cartoon style kids doing different things. It's fun, and not stressful, although in the end i will have done 300-some illustrations (Understand why no new submissions?! lol). AND I'm also about to start doing work with some major illustration studios who do work all over the US.

The reason I haven't submitted anything is because I have to put illustrations that MAKE ME MONEY first. (And I also cant legally submit any of the work-for-hire stuff.) I'm about to start doing some drawings to sell at some local places where I live and THOSE i'll be able to post. So You SHOULD see some new stuff from time to time =)

ANOTHER big announcement. I have a new (real) job! lol. I was hired by Apple Inc. (make ipods, computers, etc.) to be a sales representative for my area. So not only am I drawing constantly. I'm doing that!

Wish me luck and expect more submissions!

Crushed....

Wed Mar 7, 2007, 10:38 AM
Well... today, March 7, 2007, is a very testing day for me. Testing my passion for comics, for storytelling, and for drawing.

So What happened? Captain America #25, released today, told the story of Steve Rogers' (Captain America's) death. He was shot by a sniper, being transported to court (being charged for his actions during Civil War) and died.

Some of you are probably thinking im over reacting, or maybe joking at how much this has affected me. I've read comics for almost my entire life, except for a spell where I stopped for a while. Even for that spell, I was a deep and admiring fan of the characters. So, for Cap to die, is like someone dying I've known and admired my entire life. But ofcourse, maybe a little less since hes ofcourse not a real person. But you get the idea.

Don't misunderstand me though, I don't disagree with Marvel for the decision to do so, or hold it against them. I will still read Marvel comics, and love every word of them. Steve will be very missed though.

Expect some Cap fanart REAL soon... commemorating my Fandom of him and his life.

How I Do It

Fri Dec 8, 2006, 9:03 AM
I've had a few people ask me the process I go through to make each pinup I make. So here is a basic outline of what I do:

Step 1. I sketch out the drawing roughly. I do this traditionally, on real paper. I can't draw digital. I do this because if a drawing is not going to look good, or something be wrong with it, I can tell just by a rouch sketch.

Step 2. I tighten up the pencils and add details. This is also done traditionally, and usually on the same sheet of paper as step 1.

Step 3. I scan my pencil drawing in as a greyscale photo. Then I enlarge the drawing in photoshop, and tint my pencils a light blue. Then I reprint my sketch, with my pencils in a light blue.

Step 4. I ink my drawing traditionally over the light blue pencils I printed. I usually ink with Sakura Microns. I use almost every width from 1 to .005, and the brush pen.

Step 5. Now I rescan my inking that I did over my light blue pencils as lineart. Since my pencils were in light blue, they don't show up on the scanner, only my black ink does.

Step 6. Sometimes I clean up my lineart if it needs it, but sometimes it doesn't. Just depends on how clean you were when you inked it.

Step 7. I color the image in photoshop. I really can't explain how I color besides that I usually use an airbrush.

Well that's it, once its colored it's done. Then I post on deviantArt!

Update

Fri Nov 17, 2006, 10:51 AM
I figured I would give everyone an update on my current projects, and why I haven't been submitting as often as I used to. (I feel weird when I go a few days without submitting something new.)

Okay first off, update on Pyrogirl comic! GREAT NEWS! Well... it's been canceled. Atleast sortof. The publisher/sponsor thought Pyrogirl as a character wasn't developed enough to pull her own series. So, I'm on new series. However, Sam's in it, and so are some of my other characters (name changes are possible) , As well as some new ones!

So why did I say GREAT NEWS? Because the publisher was very impressed with my work on pyrogirl thus far, so my new project is much higher priority than pyrogirl was. I'm working with some other really great writers, inkers and such on it (ones who have been published numerous times), and i'm very excited about it. Because the new project is a tid bit higher profile, I'm not gonna give away anything about it (not even the name, yet). But I will be posting some promotional art, and maybe a preview or 2 of some internal art without any lettering. If all goes well, possibly watch for my name on the shelves of your local comic shop within the next few months =D.

I'm no longer planning on joining entervoid, as my new comic project will take up a large percentage of my drawing time. However, I am still doing the illustrations for the software as previously mentioned in my journal, and that project is moving along smoothly.

Thanks for reading and PEACE,
Garrett

Hello Again

Fri Oct 27, 2006, 2:33 PM
It's been a long time since I've done a journal entry. So I figured I'd update everyone who cares to know whats been going on.

Alot has been going on in the world of gyeager! lol I'll talk about each individually.

First off, I'm finally working on a Pyrogirl comic! I'm currently working on the first issue. There are a lot of really cool things about this project. Number one, I'm not giving any rights to any of my intellectual property away. I'm making the comic on my own terms (Not even an editor!), and they're selling it for me, period. Number two, I don't have any hardcore time limits. The comic won't be monthly, so I can basically work on it at my own pace. Now when I say no time limits... I can't take as long as i want, eventually they would probably cancel the comic lol but, it doesn't have to be monthly. So I can make it look as great as I want =D.

I'm also working on signing a deal with a software company to do illustrations for a new piece of software they are developing. This is especially funny considering I'm actually a computer science (programming) major, however, the first software project (okay, the first COMMERCIAL software project) I'm a part of I won't be writing ANY code, I'll be drawing lol. So yes! 2 paying gigs!

I'm also trying to join entervoid.com soon, and I will, ofcourse, be submitting Pyrogirl as my character. I'm working on all of her prerequisites right now. I think it will be fun, and it will help me grow in my sequential art abilites.

So how do I have time to draw this much? That's the one thing I haven't gotten figured out yet =D Lol no worries, I'm a drawing machine (especially if the subject matter is Pyrogirl, geez I've got her DOWN).
